What is a catch-all email address, and should you send to it?
Catch-all domains accept every address, so verification can't confirm the mailbox. Here's how to handle them safely.
Definition
A catch-all (or accept-all) domain is configured to accept mail for any address at that domain, even ones that don't exist. The server says 'yes' to every SMTP check, so no verifier can be 100% sure a specific mailbox is real.
Why it matters
Mail to non-existent addresses on catch-all domains may be silently discarded or bounce later, hurting your sender reputation without an obvious signal.
How to handle them
Treat catch-all results as risky. Send to them in smaller batches, prioritize addresses with strong naming patterns (first.last@), and monitor engagement. Bytecheck flags catch_all: true in every result so you can segment.
